Music Opportunities

Music has been an integral part of Christian worship from the earliest days of the Church.  Music helps raise hearts and minds to God through the singing of hymns, psalms, and spiritual songs and in the music from our various instrumentalists.  Our musicians contribute to the proclamation of the Good News with their talents.

We are proud of the various choirs at St. Paul's.

The Shalom Choir (Adult) is open to high school and college students, and adults and sings regularly during the worship service, September through June.  The ability to read music is not required for membership.  Our repertoire is varied and includes many different styles of anthems.

The YHWH Singers (grades 3 - 12)  have role in worship several times, September through April.  Singing and dancing are popular with this group!

Our Sonshine Singers (Ages 3 - grade 3) light up our worship several times during the musical season.  These smiling singers give their hearts to the Lord through their songs.

The Agape Band and Singers lead the congregation during worship the first Sunday of each month.  The band is comprised of guitar, keyboards, woodwinds, and drums to accompany the singers leading the congregation in several contemporary selections.  The band has been known to appear at other special events in the area.

Seasonal Singers -- our special worship services are fitting times for those who like to sing but are not able to commit regularly to the choirs.  They add their voices to those of the regular choirs for these services.

Woodwind, brass, and percussion add to the worship experience during other special seasons and events. Instrumentalists are encouraged to offer their services to our praise and worship of God.  Please consider dusting off any instrument you might have and joining in sometime.  We've a band, The St. Paul's Players (organized by Barbara Senft), who practice primarily for the Christmas season.  Almost any instrumentalist can fit into this group with some special arranging by our resident composer Jim Kain.  Our brass players usually provide music for our Easter Sunday worship.

A graduate of Lebanon Valley College, our music director, Joy Gobrecht, has proven to be an enthusiastic and effective leader of the various music groups  If you would like to join one of the choirs please contact her if she hasn't invited you yet to sing or play along!

Our congregation is blessed with numerous other talented musicians who regularly lead our worship experience.  Our three organists (Joy Gobrecht, Darlene Hoover, and Nancy Miller) share the responsibilities throughout the year.

Special thanks to Barbara Senft for her years of dedicated service as a Shalom Choir Director.

Special Thanks also to Nancy Miller for her dedicated service as a Shalom Choir Director.
